How to Sleep in the Summer Heat

How to Sleep in the Summer Heat

Summer is in full swing! For most of us this means BBQ’s in the sun and trips to the beach but we do know there are drawbacks to this lovely weather and this can be the heat while we are trying to sleep.

Here are a few of our top tips for keeping cool and getting a great nights sleep on warmer nights …

Choose Cotton

Cotton sheets

Cotton based sheets and clothes seem to be the best option when the weather is warm and humid. Cotton is lightweight and breathable which can create a better air circulation. Not only is it soft on your skin but it can also create a luxury feel, depending on which thread count you go for. 100% cotton sheets have a natural lightweight structure, which allows air to circulate, therefore reducing the amount we sweat during the night.

Summer Duvet

4.5 tog duvet

The tog rating of a duvet indicates how effective the material is at trapping in heat. The higher the tog, the more warm you will be. Tog ratings range from 1 to 15, with low togs being best for summer and 10.5 and above being ideal for winter. Most people opt for a 4.5 tog or 7.5 tog in the summer months however some people ditch the duvet altogether on especially hot nights and opt for a crisp white cotton sheet instead. Invest in a fan

Fan

For some people sleeping with a fan in the room can help you fall asleep and stay cool during the night. For some it is the preferred choice if you don’t want to open your windows due to safety reasons or noise disturbances. It can be a great way to help you sleep better during the summer heat.

Shut Out The Sun

Blackout thermal curtains

Our blackout curtains are coated with a thermal treatment, which has been specially developed to regulate heat distribution, this helps to keep your room cool in the summer and cosy in the winter. If the sun is on your room all day why not keep your blinds or curtains closed during the day as a preventative measure to stop your room from overheating.

Invest in a new pillow

Is there anything better then getting into bed at the end of the day and placing your head on a nice cool pillow?
