Prepare To Get Cosy

cosy by the fire

Though we may have experienced a brief Autumnal heatwave this past week, we can no longer put off the inevitable. Winter is coming! As the days get shorter and the air gets crisper, we turn to comfort and warmth throughout our homes. As we struggle through the transition period from Autumn to Winter, it’s all about adding gradual additions of cosiness to your decor through fabric textures, lighting and colours. Bottle up mother natures Autumnal goodness and bring it inside by injecting our favourite seasonal influences.

Textures

Nothing says cosy like faux fur layers. By using an eclectic mix of shades from cream to stone and chocolate, you evoke a Winter cabin Nordic style with a rustic, organic feel. Layer cushions and throws together over your sofa arms or thrown over your bedding to bring an immediate sprinkle of Autumn to your living space. For an eclectic extra snuggly boost, embrace the mix and match look by haphazardly arranging chunky cable knits within your furs and fleeces for alternative textural arrangements.

Dakota faux fur accessories

Our faux fur Dakota accessories come in a range of stone, silver grey and cream to portray a chic chalet influence. Display contrasting colours for a relaxed look.

Colours

autumnal wall colours

Bring those beautifully vibrant Autumnal colours indoors this year by creating a feature wall within your hallway, bedroom or lounge. If you’re feeling audacious, splash this with a deep blood orange to evoke autumnal leaves and pumpkin spices, creating a key focal point for your furnishings to contrast with and bring a warming glow to the atmosphere. If this palette isn’t quite to your interior taste, opt for a teal or aubergine to mimic an authentic, historic Italian Villa which will envelope a moody undertone with sophistication.

Rugs

Create the ultimate Hygge atmosphere by adding instant warmth and home comfort to your floor by the use of a rug. Choose from a soft sheepskin or long pile shaggy rug to add a natural aesthetic and variation in texture. These can even be draped over chairs or the backs of sofa’s for the ultimate Nordic chill zone. Alternatively, bring a well travelled, more global influence with a knitted or woven rug complete with warm colour palettes in Moroccan style prints. These can be effectively used under coffee tables and chair feet, or as focal points when turned into wall murals continuing an eclectic theme throughout.

Accessorising

As fall is one of our favourite times of year for home decorating, it’s about bringing us closer to the simpler things and appreciating the beautiful outdoor natures. There are many ways you can incorporate nature indoors, and our favourite is the Autumnal wreath. Perfect for your front door, fireplace centrepiece, over a statement mirror or even your wardrobe, these can be a fun craft to hand make at home or if you're feeling less ambitious, purchase from any interior store. Crafted from an inner wicker ring and embellished with a vibrant array of flowers, plants, mini vegetables and even cinnamon sticks for a fragrant touch, this adds a beautifully colourful and individual point of interest to your home this season. Why not add a quirky and iconic seasonal piece with wire or wicker rustic style baskets around your kitchen, hallway or fireplace, full of pumpkins, squash, apples and pears to give your home a novelty and wholesome autumnal vignette, giving off a hearty scent and burst of colour.

Lighting

Atmosphere and warmth can be solely created by using the right lighting. Reflect the early evening sun cast outdoors into your home by the use of warm candle glow and delicious seasonal scents. Candles are the perfect home addition to burn all year round, but in the colder months we love to burn warmer scents such as vanilla, bergamot and other fruity, spiced fragrances. Alongside candles, a deeper ambiance can be set with generic soft lighting such as lamps and strings of fairy lights to use in dark corners, offering a warm yellow-ish glow. For those of you lucky enough to have a fireplace, wood burner or even gas fires, it is time to get them all cleaned out and up and running again! For an ultra cosy compliment to these, sit baskets of wooden logs to the side of your fires, with further strings of fairy lights intertwined for a glowy grotto feel.

Bathroom

The Winter months are always the worst when it comes to stepping in and out of your shower or bath. There are so many ways to cosy up your bathroom and continue the autumnal theme throughout. Opt for long pile, fluffy bath and shower mat to warm up the floor and offer a cosy feel to your feet. Choose mocha towels, mats and even face cloths for an earthy appeal and once again, a candle or five never goes a miss around the bath to help you relax. Incorporate some materials inspired by nature by using wicker or wooden stools and baskets, with some plants and succulents for pops of wholesome colour.
